Located about 4 km from the center of Bombinhas, Retiro dos Padres (Priests’ Retreat) beach (or just Retiro Beach) was called Praia dos Ingleses (Beach of the English) for having sheltered a damaged English ship in the 19th century. In 1967, it was bought by Catholic priests, who built a house there for spiritual retreats (now a camping area), thus gaining its present name.
With approximately 260 m of sand, the beach is surrounded by exuberant Atlantic forest vegetation, surrounded by hills and filled with rocks in all its extension. The waters are crystal clear and a little agitated, ideal for diving and surfing. The infrastructure is good and includes nearby restaurants, bars and inns.
The access to the Beach is possible from the center of the city, following Avenida das Garoupas to the end.
