Embark on a Photographic Safari in the Best Region of the Pantanal to Observe Jaguars

Pantanal

A trip to the Pantanal is an unforgettable journey through one of the most impressive and diversified ecosystems on the planet.

The Pantanal is a combination of lush nature, rich biodiversity, and a distinctive cultural identity, with traditions and influences from the diverse peoples who have made this land an ecological sanctuary. The region is considered a paradise for wildlife observation. Therefore, a photographic safari to observe jaguars is the perfect choice!

Journey to the Pantanal

Your journey begins in Cuiabá, the capital of the state of Mato Grosso. From there, a car will take you to the Porto Jofre region, in the municipality of Poconé. It’s 100 kilometers of paved road and another 145 kilometers of dirt road. But all this effort is worth it! Starting with the landscapes, you will see along the way.

Throughout the journey, the guide will make some strategic stops for observing other animals. You will be enchanted by the caimans, capybaras, tapirs, deer, parrots, macaws, anteaters, and many other animals. Always have your camera ready to not miss any angle! And if you’re lucky, you might already see a jaguar on the road.

Expedition by the Rivers

You will arrive in Porto Jofre at lunchtime. The ideal time to check into the lodge, have lunch, and rest a bit. Take the opportunity to charge your electronic equipment because the second part of the day will be intense.

The guide will accompany you to the place where the boat for the river expedition will depart. He will explain how the tour will be and provide you with the necessary safety equipment. On board the boat, just enjoy the trip!

You will sail through the Cuiabá, Piquiri, Braço do Rio São Lourenço, and Corixos rivers. This tour lasts about 3 to 4 hours, and at all times, you will be looking to spot the majestic jaguars. They will be in their natural habitat, amidst untouched forests, which makes the moment even more special!

Don’t forget to have your camera always ready, because every minute can yield incredible photos! Besides the jaguar, you will have the opportunity to contemplate an incredible sunset in the Pantanal. Enjoy every minute before returning to the lodge!

Second Day of the Expedition

The day starts early, with breakfast at the lodge! Then, the guide will take you for another boat ride through the Cuiabá, Piquiri, Braço do Rio São Lourenço, and Corixos rivers. This tour also lasts about 3 to 4 hours, sailing through the habitat of the wonderful jaguar.

Lunch will be on the boat itself! You will have the opportunity to eat a typical regional meal, with salad, rice, fruits, chicken, meat, or fish. But you can also choose to have lunch at the hotel instead of on the boat. The choice is yours, just talk to the guide!

Returning to Cuiabá

As all good things come to an end, the return to Cuiabá is right after lunch. The road is the same as the one to the Pantanal, and you will still have the chance to observe several animals along the way! The trip takes between 3 and 4 hours, and you will arrive in Cuiabá at the end of the day. In your suitcase, you will have many incredible photos to show to friends and family! A truly unforgettable experience!

Stay Tuned!

The best time to spot jaguars in the Pantanal is between June and September. During this period, the chance of spotting them varies between 80% and 90%. But that doesn’t mean you won’t see these jaguars at other times of the year. Just choose the best date for your vacation and pack your bags! The Pantanal is always an excellent option!
