Explore Mount Roraima on an Expedition to the Top

Boa Vista

Boa Vista is the gateway for adventurers looking to explore Mount Roraima

Majestic and mysterious, Mount Roraima is a majestic guardian on the border between Brazil, Venezuela, and Guyana. With its table-top shape, vertical cliffs, deep valleys, and stunning landscapes, this mountain nestled in the Amazon Rainforest has been a source of fascination for adventurers from around the world for centuries. If you want to challenge your limits and explore this wild beauty, an expedition to the top of Mount Roraima is the journey you will never forget!

Mount Roraima

The mountain stands at 2,734 meters above sea level and its flat summit covers an impressive 34 km² – equivalent to more than five thousand football fields. Impressive! Additionally, it is part of a formation estimated to be 1.8 billion years old – one of the oldest on Earth.

The Brazilian side of Mount Roraima is located in the state of Roraima, and it is precisely from Boa Vista, its capital, that the main routes to the top of this giant of nature depart.

Day 1

The expeditions are trekking tours with overnight stays in camps. On the first day, the guide will meet you in Boa Vista at 08:30. At this point, you will receive the latest detailed instructions for this expedition. After lunch, the journey begins by car on BR 174 to the border with Venezuela. After the border procedures, the guide will take everyone to the hotel in the municipality of Santa Elena de Uairén. Enjoy your rest!

Day 2

Wake up early and have a hearty breakfast, as the journey to the top of Mount Roraima is about to begin. By car, you will travel to the Paraitepuy Community. This is where the trekking begins. The walk along the Tek – or Kukenan – riverbanks begins to fill your eyes with so much beauty. Upon reaching the first camp of the expedition, set up your tent and sleep peacefully under the starry sky.

Day 3

The sunrise will be something you will never forget! As the sun’s rays illuminate nature, Mount Roraima will emerge in front of you. And so, another day of trekking begins. The walk will continue until the afternoon, when you reach the Base of Mount Roraima. The camp at the base is breathtaking, as the feeling of seeing the giant wall cannot be put into words.

Day 4

Another day of trekking that starts early towards the top. Along the way, you will experience incredible moments. In addition to contemplating gardens with bromeliads, many orchids, and small birds, you will pass by several streams that will renew your energy along the way. Another great attraction of this day is the waterfall at “Paso das Lágrimas”.

The Makunaima Monument shows that you are already approaching the top, and soon after, you will be greeted by the Guardians of the Mountain – three immense blocks of stones that are shaped like observers. You will be able to capture several moments of this day, as the guide will make strategic stops for the best photos!

Day 5

From here on, the days will be a total immersion at the top of Mount Roraima. You will visit the Crystal Valley, where stones sprout from the rocks. It is said that these stones have magical powers! The fact is that the energy of this place cannot be put into words, but into sighs, sounds, silences, reflections, and quiet observations.

The next stop is the iconic Triple Point – a white pyramidal landmark that stands out in the scenery, delimiting the triple border between Venezuela, Brazil, and Guyana. From there, you will head to the Coati Camp, located on the Brazilian side. Coati is located between two huge rocks, where there is an entrance as if it were a cave. It has a kind of hall, overlooking the sky, and a winter garden, with a small pond surrounded by various plants. If you like silence and isolation, this is the place!

Day 6

Another day exploring the top of Mount Roraima. The tour will take 3 hours to go and another 3 hours to return. You will visit Lake Gladys where, according to indigenous people, there is a portal to another dimension. True or not, there is something inexplicable there! The night will be at the same camp.

Day 7

This is the day when the return journey begins. Along the way, you will pass by the Triple Point again and then by El Foso – a place that awakens your inner child! Enjoy every minute of this journey, feel the nature, contemplate the view, and take lots of photos! By late afternoon, you will arrive at the camp near the entrance of Mount Roraima, where everyone will sleep.

Day 8

The journey is almost over. On the eighth day, the walk will be light, and you will visit the Maverick Stone – the highest point of Mount Roraima from where you can see the vastness of the Gran Sabana. Then, the walk continues to the Jacuzzis Pools and La Ventana Viewpoint, where you can admire the grandeur of Mount Kukenan, with its various waterfalls. It is a true window with a view to paradise. The images are breathtaking!

The next stop is Catedral Falls – where you will feel like you are inside a Sanctuary – and then the Paso de Los Cristales – an ideal place to recharge your energy for the next days of trekking.

Day 9

The day of farewell has arrived. After everything, nostalgia and premature longing will run through your mind. Early in the morning, the descent to the base begins, where there will be a rest and trail snack stop. Then, with another 3 hours of walking, you will reach the next camp. Enjoy sleeping well and resting while enjoying the starriest sky of the trip!

Day 10

This morning, the last stage of the itinerary begins. It will be a 15-kilometer walk to the Paraitepuy Community. Once there, you will board a car and head to Boa Vista. On the way back, you will also go through the border procedures between Brazil and Venezuela, but by the end of the day, you will be in Boa Vista.

Stay tuned!
