Located about 120 km from Curitiba, Ilha do Mel (Honey Island) is one of the most popular destinations on the coast of Paraná. A great option for visitors traveling with their families and also for nature enthusiasts, the island is only a short boat trip away.
The contrast between the color of the water on the coast of Paraná and the local vegetation, formed by restinga and Atlantic Forest ecosystems, makes the island a unique and beautiful place. Its beaches are surrounded by native green forests and there are plenty of bars and restaurants for visitors to choose from.
The main attractions on Ilha do Mel are the Lighthouse on Seashell Hill (Lighthouse of Shells), the Encantadas Grotto, and the Nossa Senhora dos Prazeres Fortress. The beautiful local beaches are usually deserted and very quiet, the perfect way to enjoy a sunny day.
The island is home to beautiful beaches
As it is an access point to the Encantadas Grotto, the Beach is very popular with tourists looking for some adventure around the local caves. But this beach is also a great option if you are just looking for a good place to take a dip in the sea and enjoy the local bars and restaurants close to the shore.
Prainha (Small Beach)
A horseshoe-shaped beach with clear sand and calm waters, Prainha charms all of its visitors. It is where the Encantadas Boat Terminal is located.
During the day, tourists enjoy the region’s natural beauty. When the sun goes down, the bars along Prainha are normally crowded with visitors having fun and enjoying good food.
Praia da Gruta (Grotto Beach)
This beach is very peculiar. Visitors can only get to it during low tide, when beautiful natural pools are formed. During high tide, the beach is completely covered by the sea.
It is also another way to get to Encantadas Grotto, which gives the beach its name. The beach is a favorite with people who enjoy water sports and extreme sports such as surfing. Its strong waves are a guaranteed source of adrenaline and fun!
Praia de Fora (Outer Beach)
Stretching for about 1 km, Praia de Fora is one of the longest on the island. With fine, soft sand, it is a great place for a late afternoon stroll. It is also one of the best locations on the island to watch surfers enjoying the strong local waves.
Bica de Norinho Beach
Considered one of the island’s protected areas, Bica de Norinho is as quiet as it is beautiful. Its wide strip of soft white sand attracts tourists who just want to go for a refreshing dip in the sea and recharge their energy.
Its crystal-clear waters, although slightly rough, are great for swimming. Visitors will also find people practicing water sports such as kitesurfing. A water tap (bica in Portuguese) at the end of the beach is what gives the beach its name.
Whatever your plan on the island may be, you will find it is an unforgettable destination for those who enjoy sunshine, beaches, and nature.
