Witness the Famous Meeting of the Waters between the Amazon and Negro Rivers

Negro Rivers

Navigating the rivers of the Amazon is a unique opportunity to deeply experience nature

The largest tropical rainforest in the world is home to immense biodiversity and a multitude of indigenous cultures and traditions. To give you an idea of its grandeur, if the Amazon were a country, it would be the seventh largest in the world. But it’s not just a forest; it’s also a world of waters. Stretching nearly 7,000 kilometers, the Amazon River is fed by many tributaries, with the Negro River being the largest. Witnessing the meeting of the waters between the Amazon and Negro rivers will be one of the most incredible experiences natures has to offer!

Navigating the Amazon River

A boat trip along the Amazon and Negro rivers is more than just a simple expedition: it’s an immersion into the natural and cultural richness of the Amazon. Over 6 days, you will make new discoveries and experience adventures from a unique perspective in one of the most fascinating regions on the planet. While navigating the Amazon rivers, you will meet riverside communities and learn about their livelihoods, local flora and fauna, the Anavilhanas National Park, the meeting of the waters, and much more.

Whether you are a nature lover, an avid photographer, or someone seeking a transformative environmental experience, this journey will undoubtedly be marked as one of the most special moments of your life!

First Day: Beginning the Adventure

The journey begins right after lunch. Aboard a comfortable boat, with a welcome drink in hand, you will enjoy stunning landscapes. At the start of the experience, the guide will explain the route that will be taken over the 6 days and provide details about the boat’s facilities.

As the boat navigates the Amazon River, you will be taken to the leisure room to watch a presentation about the largest tropical rainforest in the world. This moment is rich in information, so make the most of it and ask all your questions!

At the end of the day, order a delicious caipirinha and enjoy a typical dinner from the region. But it doesn’t end there! After dinner, it’s time to explore the riverbank directly from the boat. With the help of powerful spotlights, you will see caimans, night hawks, snakes, rat-torós, sloths, and even frogs. After this experience, it’s time to rest and recharge for the next day’s schedule!

Second Day: Lake Janauacá

You will wake up at Lake Janauacá, where the boat will remain anchored all day. Before breakfast, the guide will take you for a canoe ride. Keep an eye out for birds and enjoy the dolphins that inhabit the Rio Rosa! Returning to the boat, enjoy a hearty breakfast because the day will be intense!

Wear comfortable clothes and grab your sneakers for a walk filled with lessons through the forest. A true immersion in the region considered the lungs of the world! You will also visit a community located by Lake Janauacá. The families live off cassava farming, fishing, fruit trees, Brazil nuts, timber, and extractive products. This is a unique opportunity!

After an intense day, how about relaxing with some fishing? By Lake Janauacá, you will have the chance to catch piranha, an activity not just for passionate anglers. And, of course, while in the forest, you’ll also have a good chance of spotting flocks of herons parading around!

The day ends with dinner on the boat, followed by a canoe ride to explore the forest and observe nocturnal animals. Don’t forget to admire the millions of stars and constellations in the Southern Hemisphere! It’s incredible!

Third Day: The Meeting of the Waters

This is the day you will see the famous giant water lilies! The Amazon is full of surprises, and one of them is the largest aquatic plant in the world. The day begins with a canoe ride through the Janauary Ecological Park, even before breakfast. In addition to the opportunity to observe amazing birds, you will see giant water lilies of various sizes.

Did you know? Contrary to popular belief, the giant water lily does not float. With an average diameter of 2.5 meters, the plant is supported by roots that adhere to the mud. That’s why it always lives in the shallower parts of rivers. Oh, and if you were thinking about walking on the giant water lily, forget it! The plant is sensitive and fragile like Styrofoam and can hardly bear the weight of an adult person!

Back on the boat, it’s time for breakfast while sailing towards the Meeting of the Waters of the Amazon (light color) and Negro (dark color) rivers. Due to their different densities, the waters of the rivers do not easily mix, and they run side by side for many kilometers. This is one of the most incredible phenomena that nature will allow you to witness! The boat continues navigating the Negro River, and at this moment, you will enjoy beautiful views of Manaus!

After lunch, there’s another presentation about the Amazon. Following that, you’ll have free time to contemplate the beauty of nature until the boat docks. In the evening, enjoy a delicious dinner and then explore the forest aboard a canoe. This is an opportunity to hear the chorus of birds and frogs and observe nocturnal animals in action!

Fourth Day: Tour of Anavilhanas National Park

Imagine starting the day by watching parrots and toucans in nature? That’s exactly what you will experience! Even before breakfast, you will explore the surroundings of the boat in a canoe. Upon returning from the outing, have a hearty snack to prepare for a trek through the jungle. It’s the perfect moment to discover surprising fragrances in leaves, fruits, and woods, and see many animals. A direct contact with nature! Before lunch, you will also have some time reserved for a swim in the river.

The afternoon is entirely reserved for a magnificent boat and canoe trip through Anavilhanas National Park. The second largest river archipelago in the world boasts around 400 islands and 60 lakes, in addition to immense biodiversity and natural riches. In fact, the park has been recognized as a Natural World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Anavilhanas will also reward you with an extraordinary sunset!

Fifth Day: Learning to Prepare Cassava Flour

After a delicious breakfast, the guide will take you to a native community. Many of the community members have indigenous ancestry and possess even broader knowledge of the rainforest. You will spend a very enriching time with them, walking through their gardens, learning about cassava flour preparation, and gaining insight into the health and education of the children.

The last afternoon of this six-day immersion is dedicated to enjoying a beautiful white sand beach. You will swim in some of the cleanest and most refreshing waters in the world! A sensation that will remain in your memory forever! After this relaxing moment, what could be better than observing wildlife while navigating in a canoe? Back on the boat, dinner will be served as it heads back to the Amazon River.

Last Day: Tour of the Ecological Park

The final day of the experience begins early, with a tour of the Janauary Ecological Park. This area is excellent for observing wildlife and spotting beautiful giant water lilies. The park also offers an experience in a beautiful seasonally flooded forest—known by Amazonian tribes as Igapó—and in the rich várzea forest.

As breakfast is served, the boat will head back to the Meeting of the Waters once again. Another opportunity for you to see this phenomenon! Next, it will return to Manaus, concluding this incredible trip right around lunchtime. You will never forget these days immersed in the Amazon Rainforest! You will have plenty of stories to share with family and friends!

Stay tuned!
